The clocks going forward is a great opportunity to make sure you’re only spending what you need to on your bills. As the days get warmer and lighter, some simple changes could make big impacts!
For example, if you use your energy-hungry tumble drier three times per week, swapping for the clothesline could save you £150 through the summer. Now it's lighter later, using your lights for just an hour less per day could see a saving of £24 - even more if you're yet to make the swap to LEDs. But, the biggest saving comes from rethinking your home heating.
Don't be an over-heater!
Most people adjust their heating according to the weather. But it’s very easy to forget to change it when the weather warms up, especially if your heating is on an automatic timer. Loop users who turned their heating off by mid-April last year used 10% less gas than those who left it on. Take this as your friendly reminder!
Have you adjusted your thermostat?
As spring is warmer than winter, your heating won’t be on as much during the day, however, it’s still cool in the mornings. There is an opportunity to save by heating your house less in the morning as it will naturally heat up during the day as the weather warms.
The next opportunity is to check your thermostat. If it’s still set too high, there’s a risk that your heating will run unnecessarily during the day, wasting gas and money.
If you aren’t ready to turn your heating off completely, turning down your thermostat by as little as one degree can also result in savings - dropping from 21 to 18 degrees could save the average home over £300 across the year!
Loop is a great tool to help you monitor these changes and spot other ways your household can make savings. Here's what our users have to say.
