It's time to level-up! 

After completing weeks 1 and 2 of our Winter Energy Health Check, you're now an aspiring Energy Hero ready to take on the bigger-picture changes that will take you to the finish line.  We're talking about solar panels, home batteries, heat pumps and electric vehicles.

Whilst these steps might not be for everyone right now, all households will need to make changes as we move towards a net zero future. 

The government published its Energy White Paper earlier this month detailing its agenda for the energy sector and its role in combatting climate change.  There's a lot to process in there but a critical aspect is how the largest emissions savings are expected to come from energy efficiency improvements to buildings, including domestic households.  

The good news is that the deadline for improvements carried out under the Green Homes Grant has been extended by a year to 31 March 2022, so it's a great time to get the ball rolling and level-up to become a true energy hero.

How draught-proof is your home?

Insulating and draught-proofing your home will make it warmer, cosier, more environmentally-friendly and cheaper to run.

You could also get your kids involved by making a draught excluder snake from scrap materials that will stop the cold air "hissing" under your doors. 

Are you owed money by your energy supplier?

At the end of last winter, more than four in 10 households had £136 worth of credit with their energy supplier.  A tenth were owed more than £200.  Are you one of them?  And how do you claim it back if you are?

Did you know... Installing the recommended depth of 270mm of insulation to your loft can cut £150 from your energy bill and save 610kg of CO2 emissions each year!
