It pays to talk about energy!

Did you know, measuring your energy use can reduce it by >10%. That's a great start but did you also know that simply comparing energy bills with neighbours could cut it even more? How? It's all down to behavioural science and you can watch a great video about it here.

So, why aren't more people having this conversation? We asked Loop users to tell us about their experience - a big thank you to those that did! Our survey revealed:

75% have never discussed their energy bill with their neighbours.
77% haven't shared any tips with neighbours to save energy or improve energy efficiency.
90% don't know how much their neighbour's energy bill is.
But 51% would find it useful to know how their energy use compares!

Having these conversations can encourage us to share cost-saving tips and be more aware of our use, especially if we know how much a comparable neighbour or friend is spending. So, get talking about energy!

How could you be more energy efficient at home?

With Wednesday 5th October marking Energy Efficiency Day, here are a few simple changes you could make to improve the energy efficiency of your home this weekend - why not share them with your neighbours!

1. Level-up your insulation

Heating accounts for 80% of your gas bill - keep hold of the heat you're paying for.

2. Switch to LED bulbs

Lighting makes up 15% of your bill so it pays to swap. LEDs use 90% less than halogen!

3. Monitor your energy use

Loop users save 10% just by seeing what their using. It's called the "feedback effect".

4. Wash your clothes at 30°C

It uses 40% less energy than higher temps. Avoid half loads and use the eco-mode.

5. Focus on Phantom Load

Wasted energy makes up 30% of the average bill. Find your energy-hungry things and save.

6. Do some maintenance

Defrost your freezer, move sofas away from radiators. Stop things from working overtime!
